Hectic

‘What are you adding?’

‘Me. I’m adding me. By being here. Even when I am saying nothing.’

‘That’s your answer is it?’

‘Is there another one? Are we playing ‘guess what’s in your head again”?

‘To be clear, that’s the best you can do?’

‘This isn’t going well is it?’

‘No worse than your usual rubbish.’

‘I could ask you the same question.’

‘I’m sorry?’

‘What are you adding? Me? I’ve been at work all day. Pushing back the boundaries of knowledge. Teaching and learning. What have you added? I note you are still in your pyjamas.’

‘I’ve been hard at it! First a bit of Googling. Then some coffee. Then I had a very important email to write. And then someone tweeted that Middlesex might win the County Championship for the first time since you were a child. It’s been quite hectic actually.’

‘I despair,’ I say. ‘Why did I say yes to working with you?’
