At first I thought, oh no, but reading through a few of your blogs – UAFanthorpe, Heaney, listening to Derek Mahon, and saving the rest for a later time – I thank you for bothering to give us your compilation. And I shall probably buy your book for a friend who’s just been given the dreaded diagnosis of NHL, although I hold off out delicacy of not wanting to intrude at such a terrible moment.     In keeping with the season, after reading your words, I am filled with the same sensation I first experienced upon reading A Christmas Carol, a feeling of expansiveness and elevation above the pettiness of the everyday world.

    The connection between beautiful writing and emotion, as in great music, is a miracle.
